FRIENDS & RELATIVES — THIS IS AN URGENT APPEAL FOR YOU ALL THAT COULD VERY WELL MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR LEONARD’S SAFETY AND ONE STEP CLOSER TO HIS FREEDOM. NOW IS THE TIME!

The following letters are my letters that you can use as SAMPLE LETTERS to THE DIRECTORS OF THE BUREAU OF PRISONS. You can use the points and the tone of the letters as guidelines to your own letters. This is not a request for clemency.

These letters are in support of the BOPs emergency release formula to counter the COVID-19 pandemic in prisons. It means Leonard may have a chance for home confinement early release, so our letters need to express some diplomacy and civility. We need to show the importance of how Leonard fits into this program as indicated in these letters.

Note that you can send your letters by regular mail as well as online directly to the BOP website.

Here’s the link.

Leonard Peltier Defense Committee Canada – LETTER TO BUREAU OF PRISON DIRECTORS IN RESPONSE TO THE MARSHALL PROJECT AS IT RELATES TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND RELEASE OF UNITED STATES FEDERAL & STATE PRISONERS EITHER THROUGH EARLY RELEASE OR TO THE HOME CONFINEMENT PROGRAM

To: Michael Carvajal,

Director, Bureau of Prisons

320 First Street NW

Washington, DC 20534

Re: LEONARD PELTIER, Inmate# 89637-132, USP COLEMAN I, P.O. BOX 1033 COLEMAN, FL 33521

Greetings, Director Michael Carvajal,

I am writing to you this day to share my deepest concerns for the safety and wellbeing of all Bureau of Prison (BOP) inmates and personnel. However, in specific, I would like to request your urgent attention and consideration to federal inmate # 89637-132, Leonard Peltier, as I believe Mr. Peltier more than fits all of the requirements for his immediate release and/or to home confinement, either/or.

Mr. Peltier’s imprisonment for the last 45 years is questionable and unique to millions of people around the world who see his imprisonment as an unjust imprisonment. The United Nations and Amnesty International and other human rights bodies have deemed Mr. Peltier a political prisoner whose conviction has never been proven beyond any doubt.

As far as his health requirements for his release, the BOP’s own medical records will clearly show the urgent and serious nature of Mr. Peltier’s conditions, as he has many – all life-threatening. There is no doubt that his deteriorating health makes him extremely susceptible and vulnerable to the Corona onslaught epidemic.

Mr. Peltier is a 75-year-old Elder of Native North American descent from the Turtle Mountain Reservation, North Dakota. He is of no threat to anyone and has all the support available to him from his family and community and beyond.

I would like to strongly appeal for your compassion, your consideration in approving Mr. Peltier’s release to home confinement. We believe that he is extremely susceptible to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we fear for his life.

Thank you for your time.
