Join us to tell Chase Bank: Stop Funding Line 5!
WHAT: Rally at Chase Bank
WHEN: Saturday, October 1, 10:00 am
WHERE: Chase Bank on the Square, 22 E. Mifflin St., Madison
Chase Bank is the biggest funder of fossil fuel projects in the world, including a project right here in our backyard: Line 5.
Line 5 is a pipeline expansion project in northern Wisconsin that threatens the hunting and fishing grounds of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and carries 23 million gallons of tar sands oil to market every day. This is happening at a time when we know fossil fuels need to remain in the ground to keep the effects of climate change that we’re already seeing — extreme heat, heavy rainfall and flooding, fires — from getting worse. As illustrated by the extreme heat and drought in the American West and the disastrous flooding in Pakistan — which has displaced more than 33 million people and killed more than 1,500 — climate change has a disproportionate impact on the poor, on communities of color, and on the Global South. We must confront those who perpetrate these crimes — and in our community, that’s Chase!
We are thrilled that a coalition of climate change activists and groups — 350 Wisconsin, Sierra Club, People’s Green New Deal, and Building Unity Wisconsin — has come together to organize this rally! Show up to yell, dance, sing, leaflet, or just stand with us in solidarity. We’ll get Chase’s attention and reach the Farmers’ Market crowd too! If you’re interested in helping with the rally or want to know more, please get in touch with Stephanie (stephanie.spehar@gmail.com) or Marc (marcrosenthal110254@gmail.com).
On October 1, let’s tell Chase loud and clear:
‣ Stop Funding Climate Chaos
‣ Respect Indigenous Sovereignty
‣ SHUT DOWN LINE 5!
