Workers at Solid State Books unionize

The staff of Solid State Books have unionized with UFCW Local 400, the union announced yesterday. The owners of the store — located at 600 H Street NE — have signed an agreement to voluntarily recognize the union, making Solid State Books the second bookstore in the District of Columbia to unionize after booksellers and baristas at Politics and Prose organized and ratified a contract last year. The workers organizing committee thanked “our customers, community allies and fellow union members for your outpouring of support. We look forward to negotiating our first contract collectively and making Solid State the best workplace it can be. Solidarity forever!”
