Four years at Starbucks taught me one thing: my coworkers show up for me more than our CEO ever has. My store just became the 700th to vote yes on a union. 
It’s an honor, but it’s really a testament to the work already being done. What I’m hoping for is simple: guaranteed hours and three people on the floor instead of two. It’s so hard to run a store with two people. That’s not a huge ask from a company like Starbucks.
Here’s what gets me. 
Customers walk in, see two people working, and think nobody wants to work. The truth is… everybody wants to work. It’s just easier for the company to cut labor and protect their profit margin than it is to give us the hours we actually need.
People ask why I stay instead of finding a job somewhere else. Honestly, I love my coworkers, and I believe this could be an amazing place to work if the company actually showed up for us the way we show up for each other.
