Starbucks has an announcement. No, not a fair contract. Not better staffing. Not a real wage increase…
TikToks.
That’s right, Starbucks is launching a program to pay select baristas to make TikTok content for the brand. Creative briefs and all. A cut of the ad revenue, if your video makes the cut.
So generous of them…
Except baristas have been posting about their jobs on social media for years, on their own time, in their own voice, and plenty of them got written up or fired for it. Now, suddenly, Starbucks loves when baristas talk about work online. As long as it’s the version they scripted.
Michelle Eisen, barista and SBWU spokesperson, summed it up:“Rather than listening to baristas’ voices at the bargaining table and settling a fair contract, Starbucks is attempting to sanitize their reputation by paying baristas to say nice things instead of paying them what they deserve.”We’ve been bargaining for a fair contract for almost two years. Starbucks found the budget for TikTok briefs before it found the budget for a fair contract. We don’t need a content calendar from corporate. We need a contract.Stay in the know, no brand deal required. We’ve been the original green apron creators this whole time, no script necessary. |
