Statement From The All People’s Congress about Troy Davis clemency denial

Gather to STAND with Troy Davis to let him know that he is not alone!
Gather to express our LOVE for his family and supporters!
And gather to continue the FIGHT FOR JUSTICE!

Dear Friends:

This unjust and racist decision to deny clemency for Troy Davis is not unexpected but is still shocking and deeply painful to all of us. The All Peoples Congress along with other groups had scheduled a protest this Wednesday — this protest was set by consensus at the Sept 16th emergency protest in downtown Baltimore.

We will continue with our plans.

The racist legal lynching of an innocent man is meant not only to deny justice to Troy Davis and his family — it is also aimed at all justice loving people — it is aimed at poor and working people everywhere — particularly the most oppressed.  It is a form of terror.

The message is to give up resistance and struggle.

In a time when the capitalist economic system is in total decay — when joblessness, war and racism are on the rise — we are being told “Do not fight back”.

On Wednesday, we will gather to say NO to this message!

We will gather to STAND with Troy Davis to let him know that he is not alone!

We will gather to express our LOVE for his family and supporters!

And we will gather to continue the FIGHT FOR JUSTICE!

No one knows better than Troy Davis that the struggle for justice is long and hard. He has always asked his supporters to extend their activism to all the many others who are subjected to similar denials of fairness under this system of class and race bias.

We will turn our anger, disappointment and outrage to a firm resolve to challenge, resist and build the kind of movement capable of overturning the injustices and racism that are endemic to this system and to fight for a better world for all.

The power of the people will prevail!

All Peoples Congress

Clemency denied, Stand With Troy Davis!

FROM THE NAACP:

Today, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles co-signed on the decision to execute Troy Davis.

Despite overwhelming evidence pointing to his innocence — evidence that prompted former FBI Director William Sessions and more than a million others to write in support of clemency — Troy’s execution is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21.

Please stand with Troy and his family. Tell District Attorney Larry Chisolm that he has to intercede:

http://action.naacp.org/Ask-DA-Chisolm-To-Help

Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm is the man who requested the death warrant against Troy Davis. He’s the glue that holds the case together and, even after today’s news, he remains in a unique position to petition the judge to withdraw the death warrant against Troy. It’s a long shot, but it’s Troy’s best hope.

Please, our last hope is to change the heart of District Attorney Chisolm. Sign today, and we will make sure that every name is hand delivered to his office:

Please, take one last action and sign the petition today:

Baltimore protest for Troy Davis

Baltimore protest for Troy Davis

From the Atlanta International Action Center:

Troy Davis Actions Update
Friends:

Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people have voiced their opposition to the execution of Troy Davis. There were demonstrations, vigils and other forms of protest in some 300 locations on Sept. 16. 4000 people came out in Atlanta on Friday, the International Day of Solidarity with Troy Davis, overflowing the sanctuary of Ebenezer Baptist Church and filling the outside space.

We must keep the pressure on the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole to grant clemency.

Here are some of the planned actions.

Students and others with the Free Troy Davis Defense Committee began a 24 hr. presence at the Floyd Veterans Memorial Building Sunday morning till Monday morning. You can drop by and stay for any length of time. If you have extra blankets, that would be appreciated.

Starting Monday, Sept. 19 at 7am, WRFG 89.3FM will begin a Troy Davis Justice Watch with live broadcasts from outside the Pardons and Parole Board building, 2 MLK Dr (at Piedmont) at the top of each hour. From 6-8pm, there will be an on air community conversation which listeners are encouraged to join. 404.523.8989. Also streamed at www.wrfg.org  WRFG 89.3FM is your station for progressive information.

7:30am, continuous community witness and prayer circle, 2 MLK Dr (at Piedmont and adjacent to the GSU MARTA station.) People will stand watch throughout the day to constantly call on the Board to grant clemency to Troy Davis. The hearing which is closed to the public is expected to begin a 9am and go through the afternoon. The time of the announcement of the Board’s decision is not known but it usually happens on Monday.

6pm, solidarity gathering at Woodruff Park, Peachtree and Edgewood. Called by FTP Movement and Malcolm X Grassroots Movement. Action will be determined by the decision of the Board.

Tuesday, Sept. 20

Various organizations are making contingency plans in response to the Board’s decision.

Georgians For an Alternative to the Dearth Penalty (GFADP) will hold a celebratory gathering at a church (TBA ) if clemency or a temporary stay is granted .

In the event the death sentence is upheld, Tuesday will be a Day of Protest.

8:30am, death penalty opponents will protest at the offices of Dr. Carlo Musso, 9020 Peridot Parkway, Stockbridge 30281. He is paid $18,000 to administer the lethal injection in violation of his medical oath “to do no harm.”

GFADP urges people to wear black arm bands inscribed with “Not in my Name” and to attend a protest rally at 7pm at the State Capitol.

Other plans for public protest in Atlanta are under discussion.

The International Action Center in cooperation with others is calling for solidarity actions Monday and Tuesday around the US and the world to make clear the resolve of the people to stop the execution of Troy Davis. Go to www.iacenter.org for more information.

Wednesday, Sept. 21

If clemency has been denied, Troy Davis is scheduled for execution at 7pm in Jackson, Ga.state prison.

A protest will be held at Towaliga County line Baptist Church, 153 Short Rd., Jackson, Ga. 30233 and in multiple other Georgia cities and towns. Go to www.gfadp.org for a complete list.

In Atlanta, people will gather at the State Capitol.

If the execution goes forward, additional plans will be announced as they are developed.

You can still flood the Board on Monday with petitions, letters, phone calls, faxes and e-mails. Go to www.justicefortroy.org for that information.
