About wibailoutpeople

We are a part of the national Bail Out The People movement which formed in 2008 to fight against the bailouts to the banks. Since then we have been in numerous fights against poverty, racism and war. We demand that the people be bailed out not the banks, a moratorium on all foreclosures, a federal jobs program now and other demands. We have been participating in the Wisconsin people's uprising, Bloombergville in NYC and numerous other people's actions.

The Los Angeles Rebellion Against Racism, Free PDF of pamphlet

This pamphlet from 1992 details the rebellion after the Mr. Rodney King verdict and the resistance against the police, corporations, the banks and corrupt politicians in Los Angeles who were and are responsible for the abysmal living conditions in communities of color. Considering the recent developments in Milwaukee regarding African American youth and the police brutality and other oppression inflicted upon them and their communities, this pamphlet is being made available for free in an effort to assist organizational efforts to oppose the political, social and economic attacks on communities of color in Wisconsin and nationwide. Youth need living wage JOBS, recreational facilities, access to educational opportunities, art, culture, housing and other human needs not war, racism, prisons and police repression.

Emergency Planning Meeting: Stop Racists on Sept. 11 in NYC
Solidarity Center
55 West 17th Street, 5th Floor
New York, New York
(Note: Those individuals and organizations who can’t attend the planning meeting or be at the demonstration, can send in their endorsements.)
A message from the International Action Center:
Dear Friend,

We are writing with a sense of great urgency and concern.

Extreme right wing racist forces, who last year whipped up an ugly climate of hate against the Islamic Prayer Center at 51 Park Place, have announced new plans for Sunday, September 11 this year at the same location.

Last year the media claimed that this well financed hate group represented the views of a great majority of the population. However many of us considered it a responsibility to show that they do not speak for the people in NYC.

We organized, with the help of many thousands who responded, a far larger and dignified outpouring to stand for unity and solidarity and against racism, war and anti-Muslim bigotry.

This year on the 10th Anniversary of September 11, it is more important than ever that we do not allow this grouping to be the only voice speaking to the media and to the world. It is especially important to counter in this period of growing economic crisis, the forces who want to blame immigrants and Muslims for the cutbacks in social services, deteriorating conditions and continuing wars.

In response to this year’s new threats, we must revive the Emergency Mobilization Against Racism, War and Anti-Muslim Bigotry.

Please join with us on WEDNESDAY, Aug 10 at 6pm to plan for a rally of unity and solidarity. This will give us one month to be well organized with a clear message.

The planning meeting will be at the Solidarity Center at 55 West 17th St, #5C, NY, NY 10011 (between 5 & 6 Ave) Take the A,B,C,E,F,L,M,1,2,3,4,5,6, or NJ PATH trains to 14th St. After 6pm there is also free parking on the street. Please invite others who you think would be interested in participating.

Light refreshments will be served so that those fasting for Ramadan can break their fast at 8pm.

We will also have an update on the plans for the Palestine Rally scheduled for Thursday, September 15 marching from Times Square to the UN.

Please consider now if you can add your name and your organization’s name in support of this united gathering on Sunday, Sept 11, 2011.

We look forward to seeing you this Wed, Aug 10 at 6pm.

For Respect and Solidarity,
Sara Flounders

Feed The People Not The Pentagon

Picture the Homeless shot this video at an August 5 New York City protest of the Food Is A Right campaign, which is organizing with food stamp recipients, volunteers and other groups throughout the 5 boroughs to build a grassroots movement to stop cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Speakers in this video:
Rocio Silverio, Bail Out the People Movement,
Gavrielle Gemma, Bail out the People Movement,
Kendall Jackman, Picture the Homeless
Tanaka Nyemba, CUNY Student Movement/Picture the Homeless

In April 2011 the House passed a bill cutting $127 billion, 20% from SNAP the food stamp program, in the next ten years. The bill converts SNAP from an entitlement program into a capped block grant controlled by individual states.

With the recession turning into a prolonged depression for millions in the U.S., unemployment rising, and the cost of food, rent and other necessities rising, SNAP is the only barrier against hunger and even starvation.

1.7 million New Yorkers receive food stamps, the majority families with children. 3 million New Yorkers use SNAP and other nutrition services such as W.I.C., food pantries and banks.

Standing up to corporate greed, 45,000 Verizon workers strike Verizon

Aug 7, 2011

Company Refuses to Bargain Seriously, Verizon Proposals Would Take Workers Back Decades

Washington, D.C. — More than 45,000 workers are on strike today at Verizon Communications. Bargaining continues. Since bargaining began on June 22, Verizon has refused to move from a long list of concession demands. As the contract expired, nearly 100 concessionary company proposals remained on the table.

As a result, CWA and IBEW have decided to take the unprecedented step of striking until Verizon stops its Wisconsin-style tactics and starts bargaining seriously.

Even at the 11th hour, as contracts were set to expire, Verizon continued to seek to strip away 50 years of collective bargaining gains for middle class workers and their families.

CWA and IBEW members are prepared to return to work when management demonstrates the willingness to begin bargaining seriously for a fair agreement. If not, CWA and IBEW members and allies will continue the fight.

Verizon financials

  • 2011 annualized revenues are $108 billion and annualized net profits are $6 billion.
  • Verizon Wireless just paid its parent company and Vodaphone a $10 billion dividend.
  • Verizon’s top five executives received compensation of $258 million over the past four years.

The contract covers 45,000 members of CWA and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers from New England to Virginia.
