Madison, January 24: From Flint to Madison: Our Water is Under Attack!
We just learned that Wisconsin legislators are considering a bill (SB 432) that would allow for the privatization of the state’s water.
“SB 432 makes it possible for communities to transfer water utility management from the public sector to the private sector, which means out-of-state and potentially multi-national companies will assume control of our public water supplies with less oversight. Water privatization most often leads to declining quality of service, higher water rates, less accountability and oversight (private companies do not face elections or have to share information), and a loss of public sector jobs.” (Milwaukee Riverkeeper website)
We will gather at the Lady Forward statue on the northwest side of the capitol to assemble our message to help bring visibility to this unconscionable attempt to raid our public resources.

Activists pull out of Chicago LGBTQ conference over Israel pinkwashing
Black Lives Matter Chicago has added its voice to protests over the National LGBTQ Task Force’s inclusion of an Israel lobby group in its Creating Change conference in Chicago this weekend.
Tarab-NYC, an LGBTQ and gender nonconforming group organizing in Middle Eastern and North African communities, launched the #cancelpinkwashing campaign in response to the inclusion of A Wider Bridge…
“…As we deepen the relationship between Black Liberation and Palestinian solidarity work, it is crucial to center Black Palestinian voices, perspectives and experiences,” Tompkins argued.
Tompkins also elaborated on how Palestinian liberation, including LGBTQ and Afro-Palestinian liberation, can play a role in Black liberation.
“The hope is that we can show up for each other as co-resisters and accomplices, and less so under a symbolic ally position,” Tompkins said.
This includes making solidarity statements and honoring calls for support, “but it also requires building collective knowledge about our histories and current struggles…”

UW Madison, Feb. 5: BlackOut UW Board of Regents Meeting #2
THE UNHEARD OUTCRY OF THE OPPRESSED STUDENT WILL BE SILENCED NO MORE!!!
No UW-System school student deserves to feel marginalized or oppressed at any UW-System Institution. It is time for the UW-Systems Institutions to answer to our cry for social progress and social justice on our campuses.
On Friday February 5 at 9 AM in Gordon Commons at UW Madison we will be continuing the UW-BlackOut Movement with our Seccond BlackOut Board of Regents Protest. We will continue to lift the demands of the students as we call out university officials on their lack of support and action in matters of Diversity, Inclusion, Harm against students of color, Campus social climate and the over all condition of non-majority students on campus. Our campuses are witnessing students wearing black face, racially charged incidents and students engaging in backlash against the protest of students of color. Rather than standing behind students of color in an attempt to make our campuses better for all students our administration (The Board of Regents) has passed a Free Speech Resolution that protects speech that can be considered discriminatory or hate speech. This does nothing but perpetuate a negative and hostile learning environment for students of color. Our protest calls for the removal of this resolution and the uplifting of our current demands that can be found in the link below.
Join us on February 5 as we fight for social justice in order to make the UW-System Schools a better learning environment for all Students. Invite supporters!

Smash Jim Crow! Sign Petition to Demand Hands Off Civil Service Protections!
Last fall, Gov. Walker and GOP lawmakers introduced Senate Bill 285, a bill that will destroy key components of Wisconsin’s civil service system. Wednesday night, the Senate signed off on the Assembly version of the bill AB 373.
The bill would remove impartial exams that test an applicant’s knowledge and skill level and give complete hiring control to the Department of Administration which is a direct extension of Gov. Walker’s office. The destruction of our great civil service system is now on Governor Walker’s desk, awaiting his approval.
Click here to tell Gov. Walker to VETO changes to our civil service system.
Removing the objective testing makes it easier to hire candidates with political pull and connections. The test ensures that public services are delivered with professionalism, efficiency and integrity by highly qualified workers. Our state works best when state workers are hired on what they know, not who they know.
Instead of working to create jobs, Gov. Walker and the GOP are focusing on expanding their parties influence and control by inserting politics into civil service and opening it up for cronyism.
Citizens are the big losers if civil service objectivity disappears. The work of Wisconsin state employees’ touches the lives of every single Wisconsin resident by delivering a wide range of vital services like keeping streets safe and clear in winter, monitoring safe drinking water and educating future generations.
If the civil service changes adopted by the legislature are approved by Gov. Walker, public agencies would open the door to political patronage. Corruption and cronyism would flourish. Wisconsin deserves better. Take action today.
