Feb. 25, Milwaukee: Organizing Meeting To Stop Foreclosures & Evictions

Join The Fight

STOP FORECLOSURES & EVICTIONS

Wisconsin is suffering our worst housing crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Everyone in Wisconsin is being affected by the foreclosure crisis. Thousands are facing eviction and entire communities are being decimated by abandoned and often vandalized homes which drive down property values. The worst effects of the foreclosure epidemic are in the Black and Latino/a communities and especially women and children.

Jerry Goldberg, a Detroit People’s Attorney and leader of the Moratorium Now Coalition, will speak at this meeting about how the banks-in complicity with the federal government-are responsible for the foreclosure epidemic. He will also speak on the immediate demand for a federal moratorium on foreclosures.

The jobs crisis (official unemployment in Milwaukee’s Black community is over 50 percent) will also be addressed with the demand of a federal jobs program based on the model of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930’s.

Bryan G. Pfeifer & Andy Andre’s Bench Trial Set For March 29, 2012

A message from the WI Bail Out The People Movement:

Bryan G. Pfeifer and Andy Andre went to court today and we were able to get the same date for a bench trial for Andy and Bryan (the city was previously trying to have our trials on different days). So the next and we hope final day for both Andy and Bryan’s bench trial is March 29. More updates to follow. Thanks to everyone for the solidarity, it’s very appreciated.

ALSO:

Brother Jacob Gilcklich, the president of the Milwaukee Graduate Assistants Association-AFT at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, came to court today to support Andy and Bryan and to bring a Feb. 9 statement of solidarity.

The MGAA solidarity statement reads: “We, the general membership of the Milwaukee Graduate Assistants Association, condemn the unjust arrest of Bryan Pfeifer and Andy Andre. Both individuals were seized by the police without provocation on August 26, 2011, arrested for peacefully protesting Scott Walker’s presence at Messmer School in Riverwest. MGAA stands in support of Bryan Pfeifer and Andy Andre and their actions on that day. We will mobilize our members to be present in support at their upcoming court hearing February 16, and will agitate to clear them of all charges. We will continue to stand with them in mobilizing against Scott Walker, his ruinous policies and police repression.”
