From AFT Michigan:
(Even if you aren’t from MI, you are encouraged to contact the members of the legislature)
Senator Randy Richardville has introduced SB 971, which would change Michigan law to declare that university research assistants are not employees. Why is the head of the Senate worried about such a detail, rather than creating jobs or restoring education funding? Because 2,200 Research Assistants at the University of Michigan want to form a union.
Please call your State Senator and tell them you oppose SB 971 right now! Click here for contact info.
The Michigan Employment Relations Commission (MERC) is currently conducting a hearing to determine whether the U of M Research Assistants meet the statutory definition of employees. We believe they are clearly employees doing valuable work for the university but beyond that, MERC should clearly be allowed to do it’s job without legislators politicizing the process.
Research assistants deserve the right to vote and our legislators shouldn’t be trying to disrupt the established procedures and take collective bargaining rights away from a group of employees just because they stepped up to exercise their voice at work. SB 971 will be considered in Senate Committee Tuesday morning–please call your State Senator and ask them to vote no on SB 971 right now!

From NARAL Wisconsin:
Please join as at Representative Paul Ryan’s office in Janesville on Friday to urge Rep. Ryan to support women’s access to health insurance that covers birth control, regardless of where a woman works!
Paul Ryan was on Meet the Press last week claiming that denying women access to birth control is a matter of religious freedom, and last week the House Oversight and Government Reform Commitee held a hearing on a policy to require insurance plans cover contraceptives in which the panel was all-male and opposed to birth control coverage.
Join us in telling anti-contraception Rep. Paul Ryan to Let Women Speak!
20 South Main, Janesville, 12 noon
For questions regarding the event, please contact NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin at (608) 287-0016 or info@prochoicewisconsin.org.
Hope to see you at noon on Friday outside Paul Ryan’s office!
