TEHRAN – Abayomi Azikiwe, an African American author, and journalist in Detroit, tells the Tehran Times that the owners of mainstream media in the U.S. have a vested interest in crushing the anti-racist movement and as a result, they “have lost credibility”.

Azikiwe says the fact that most people are suspicious of cable networks and news publications “can potentially place the ruling class in serious danger of a national uprising since its appeal to the masses could easily be rejected by key elements in the population.”

Azikiwe, who is the editor of the Pan-African News Wire, also expresses his dismay over the illegal presence of U.S. forces in Syria, saying, “The American government resents the independent character of the Syria state and therefore all peace and freedom-loving people throughout the world should defend the inherent right of the Syrian people to determine their leadership and the social system that best suits them in this historical period.”

The African-American writer also says U.S. forces have been deployed in the West Asia region to just “serve an imperialist agenda”.

The text of the interview with Azikiwe is as follows:
Q: Firstly, please let me ask your opinion on the recent U.S. illegal move in Syria. On Thursday night, U.S. warplanes operating illegally in Syria conducted some dangerous maneuvering close to the Mahan Air flight. The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran called it “a clear violation of international law and aviation standards and regulations.”  What is your comment?

A: This incident which gained major coverage in the U.S. corporate media was not an accident. The Trump administration has never concealed its hostility towards Iran. Fortunately, the pilots were able to avoid a crash landing. Although reports indicate that many people suffered injuries. Such occurrences should not go without an official response from international human rights agencies particularly within the United Nations framework….

August 29th, 2020: Chicano National Day of Action and Resistance!

Los Angeles, CA — The 50th Anniversary Chicano Moratorium Organizing Committee, a coalition of individuals, SEIU 1877, SEIU 721, Teamsters Local 396, Teamsters District Council 42, Longshoremen Local 13, Longshoremen Local 26, and several organizations including Union del Barrio, La Raza Unida Party and Centro CSO is calling for a Chicano National Day of Action and Resistance Against Racism, Sexism, and Fascism on August 29th, 2020! The day coincides with the 50th year anniversary of the mass protest in East LA on August 29th,1970, recognized today as the Chicano Moratorium.

Over the years, Raza organizations declared August 29th as Chicano Liberation Day and various cities have held annual celebrations of the 1970 historic event.

In 2020, two factors give the Chicano Moratorium even more significance: One, we are enduring a pandemic which has its most injurious impact upon Chicano, Latino, Black, and indigenous communities, the incarcerated and the immigrant detained. Two, due to the reaction of the police lynching of George Floyd, we are at a point of heightened racial awareness, of exploring privilege, and examining the legacy of systemic exploitation.

The Chicano Moratorium & Chicanos against U.S. Wars & Police Brutality

August 29, 1970 over 30,000 Chicanos and supporters from all over the U.S. united in East Los Angeles to protest against the high casualty rate of Chicanos in the Vietnam War. The protest also denounced the racist military draft, police brutality of Chicanos, as well as racism in general. LAPD and LASD brutally attacked the peaceful rally at Laguna Park, beating and tear gassing hundreds and arresting scores of people. The people fought back, and many police went down, as the rebellion continued on Whittier Boulevard in East LA. The police killed event attendees, Angel Diaz and Ruben Salazar. Ruben Salazar was a KMEX News Director and LA Times news reporter covering the historic event. Lynn Ward, a Brown Beret, also died during the demonstration.

No photo description available.

Leonard Peltier Defense Committee Canada

FRIENDS & RELATIVES — THIS IS AN URGENT APPEAL FOR YOU ALL THAT COULD VERY WELL MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR LEONARD’S SAFETY AND ONE STEP CLOSER TO HIS FREEDOM. NOW IS THE TIME!

The following letters are my letters that you can use as SAMPLE LETTERS to THE DIRECTORS OF THE BUREAU OF PRISONS. You can use the points and the tone of the letters as guidelines to your own letters. This is not a request for clemency.

These letters are in support of the BOPs emergency release formula to counter the COVID-19 pandemic in prisons. It means Leonard may have a chance for home confinement early release, so our letters need to express some diplomacy and civility. We need to show the importance of how Leonard fits into this program as indicated in these letters.

Note that you can send your letters by regular mail as well as online directly to the BOP website.

Here’s the link.

Leonard Peltier Defense Committee Canada – LETTER TO BUREAU OF PRISON DIRECTORS IN RESPONSE TO THE MARSHALL PROJECT AS IT RELATES TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND RELEASE OF UNITED STATES FEDERAL & STATE PRISONERS EITHER THROUGH EARLY RELEASE OR TO THE HOME CONFINEMENT PROGRAM

To: Michael Carvajal,

Director, Bureau of Prisons

320 First Street NW

Washington, DC 20534

Re: LEONARD PELTIER, Inmate# 89637-132, USP COLEMAN I, P.O. BOX 1033 COLEMAN, FL 33521

Greetings, Director Michael Carvajal,

I am writing to you this day to share my deepest concerns for the safety and wellbeing of all Bureau of Prison (BOP) inmates and personnel. However, in specific, I would like to request your urgent attention and consideration to federal inmate # 89637-132, Leonard Peltier, as I believe Mr. Peltier more than fits all of the requirements for his immediate release and/or to home confinement, either/or.

Mr. Peltier’s imprisonment for the last 45 years is questionable and unique to millions of people around the world who see his imprisonment as an unjust imprisonment. The United Nations and Amnesty International and other human rights bodies have deemed Mr. Peltier a political prisoner whose conviction has never been proven beyond any doubt.

As far as his health requirements for his release, the BOP’s own medical records will clearly show the urgent and serious nature of Mr. Peltier’s conditions, as he has many – all life-threatening. There is no doubt that his deteriorating health makes him extremely susceptible and vulnerable to the Corona onslaught epidemic.

Mr. Peltier is a 75-year-old Elder of Native North American descent from the Turtle Mountain Reservation, North Dakota. He is of no threat to anyone and has all the support available to him from his family and community and beyond.

I would like to strongly appeal for your compassion, your consideration in approving Mr. Peltier’s release to home confinement. We believe that he is extremely susceptible to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we fear for his life.

Thank you for your time.
